Our Classes

Below is a description of each of our classes we offer to talented individuals

Saturday Stage School

Not like any other…

On a Saturday between April to December we have a different Guest Tutors on our panels that teach Singing, Acting and Dance. Along with resident staff.

Our acting classes are taught by a panel of industry professional and are exclusive to Singer Stage School. Topics covered include Screen Acting Coaching, Audition Technique, Screen Acting, Understanding characters, Scripts Work, Voiceover, Presenting, Comedy, Intimacy and Improvisation.
We also regularly have Casting Directors lead workshops to look for new talent and give the students an insight what a casting director would look for.

We have 2 vocal coaches at the school alongside some special guests and master classes for Singing. The main genre covered is Musical Theatre but we also cover Pop, Audition preparation for West End shows and College auditions and Harmony Work.

Each term we have a different guest choreographer to teach dance.

So almost every style is covered focusing mainly on Commercial/Street Dance. So we have covered recently Hip Hop, Dance Hall, Waacking, Jazz, Locking, Commercial, House, Break dance and Lyrical/Contemporary. Our guest tutors are from hit shows such as: So You Think You Can Dance, Choreographers from X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, The Voice, and major TV programmes.

We have Musical Theatre Artistes teach from top shows such as: Thriller, Legally Blonde, Shrek, Grease, The Commitments, Rock of Ages, Footloose, Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Sister Act, Chitty, Chitty Bang Bang, Les Miserables, Jersey Boys, Fame, Hairspray, High School Musical, Starlight Express, Chicago, West Side Story, Tap Dogs, Swan Lake (Matthew Bourne) and lots more.

Our Guest Dancers have danced (Leads and Featured) with artistes such as: One Direction, Little Mix, Kylie, Justin Bieber, Jesse J, Janet Jackson, Rihanna, Cheryl Cole, The Saturdays, Lady Gaga, Beth Ditto, Ellie Goulding, Black Eyed Peas, Sean Paul, Nicole Scherzinger. Film and TV: Hellcats, Streetdance 1 & 2, Camp Rock, X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, MTV, So You Think You Can Dance. The list is endless.

All technical dance styles are based on Ballet therefore it is hugely important for any children looking to work in Musical Theatre and any students wanting to move on to performing arts colleges to study Musical Theatre, Commercial/Street or Contemporary Dance. Ballet is great for posture, co-ordination, musicality, strength, flexibility and balance. It can really benefit children not only within dance but sports such as gymnastics and football.

We supply I.S.T.D. Ballet training at the school. Starting with Primary Ballet right up to Major exam grades ready for your teaching exams should you wish to take them.

We recommend that children start ballet at approx 3 and a half at the earliest. Before that time it is far more difficult for young children to concentrate for the whole length of the class. You can start ballet at any age at the school and will join a suitable class for your level and capability (older students starting ballet will not be put in grades with much younger children so will need to work hard to keep up with a more advanced class). We have lots of boys taking ballet class at the school too to help their other styles of dance or sports.

Jazz will focus strongly on technique working on turns/pirouettes, leaps kicks and jumps. The class will also include routines of different styles including lyrical and musical theatre. This class is essential for students wanting a career in Musical Theatre or Commercial/Contemporary dance.

Tap is great skill to have for all dancers. It is the most effective style to help rhythm and musicality and is needed for Musical Theatre and sometimes commercial dance. Our classes are not based on an exam syllabus so we can get through the work quicker and make sure they are fully prepared for any Performing Arts college.

Street & Hip Hop

This class will cover various styles including Hip Hop Choreography, Breaking, Locking, Popping and House dance. This class will greatly help style, precision and versatility. Hip hop is a must for students wanting a career in Commercial dance and is also used lots in Musicals now too. Having a regular hip hop class and learning the basics of each street style will help the students progress more with the Saturday master classes and improve their freestyle for auditions.

Acrobatics teaches flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline & concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique. Students will learn such things as handstands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance & contortion tricks progressing to more advanced tumbling including Aerials (no handed cartwheels) and back flips. This class is great for students looking to enhance their agility, flexibility, & strength. Working on flexibility and strength in Acro will help all other areas of dance, particularly Ballet and Jazz. Acro is an advantage for freestyle dance within auditions and classes.

Commercial Dance (Jazz Funk)

Jazz funk (commercial) is a classed for our more mature girls to work on style, musicality, dynamics, performance and picking up choreography. Classes will cover dancing in heels too to prepare the girls for commercial auditions when they attend college and graduate from us. As choreography will be more mature we advice students are at least 12/13 years to attend (class is aimed at 15 year olds+).

LAMDA (Drama Exams)

We offer LAMDA drama exams with our highly experiences LAMDA coaches. These one on one lessons are great to work on confidence, diction, accents and memorizing and understanding monologues/scripts. There are several options when choosing LAMDA grades, we have chosen to work on LAMDA ACTING exams rather than Verse and Prose which children have often worked on at their academic schools. We have received great results for all our LAMDA students. These exams (when taken at a high level) also count towards UCAS points for University and can be equivalent of an A level. The exams can also lead to becoming a LAMDA teacher.

Audition + Drama Coaching (Screen Acting)

We also offer one on one coaching for 30 mins to prepare for an important audition or just work on your screen acting skills which would include cold reading, character interpretation, etc. So you feel prepared for your next casting. Some students alternate between this class and LAMDA.

Vocal Coaching (Private Singing Lessons)

Private singing lessons are available with our 2 main vocal coaches subject to availability. Priority is given to students preparing audition songs for college auditions or who are preparing for a Musical Theatre casting. Lessons are available to other students wanting to improve their singing depending on availability.
